This years Rock Creek Ladies Veteran Retreat was one for the books. We had 5 attendees who joined us on the peninsula this year for a Labor Day weekend full of fun and excitement. On their arrival Thursday afternoon they were greeted by a number of MWOTW board members and volunteers, and notable event sponsors, along with the owners and operators of Rock Creek Marina. Following a small meet and greet steak dinner, the ladies were introduced to a worm harness building class put on by our Executive Director Billy Hoverson and Advisory Board Member and Boat Captain Tayler Kennedy. The morning brought another delicious breakfast meal cooked by Board Member John Morford and Vice Executive Director Jay Collins who acted as our camp cooks through the weekend. Then it was time for boat launch to kick off the first day of fishing with this year’s volunteer boat captains. That evening we were surprised by local Miles City artist Keely Perkins who led the ladies in a sip n paint class. The schedule changed suddenly Saturday when the annual poker run was cancelled due to rough water. None the less the ladies got another full day of fishing before attending a spectacular Brisket meal prepared in their honor by Dave Frank and crew at the Rock Creek Marina. The festivities kept on going into the evening with a blind draw Cornhole tournament lead by Marina staff member Wade Rykal and his lovely co-worker and wife-to-be Peyton Garrison. Raffles were also held during the event with lucky winners taking home items like an Smith and Wesson M&P Shield and a 1/4 beef furnished by Bred Red Meats LLC. of Circle, MT. Dessert was provided by The Lunch Box also of Circle. Our final day of fishing was the best day, beautiful overcast skies and calm waters. The evening was spent socializing, along with a pontoon ride with John and Linda Killen. Mother nature did not want us to leave on Labor Day, trying to stall things with an early morning storm and pouring rain. But, the sun came out and did its magic quickly as we said our farewells before the ladies were escorted back to Miles City to grab vehicles and head back home to their families. All in all we had another successful trip and a great time creating memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you to all of our boat captains. Also Advisory Board Member Steve Downs of Sage Flat Shooter LLC for making the trek over to help us out with the raffle. Next years trip is already in planning and the dates have been set for September 2nd thru September 6th.
