Welcome to Montana Warriors on the Water
Greetings,
I would like to personally welcome you to the new Montana Warriors on the Water website. We truly appreciate your interest in our organization.
For nearly eleven years, we have worked diligently to provide our nation’s service members with safe, relaxing, and therapeutic outdoor experiences — completely free of charge to the Veterans who attend. Serving those who have served us is not just our mission; it is our privilege.
2026 is no exception. This year, we are offering three unique outdoor excursions that showcase the very best of Montana. From elk hunting in the majestic, pine-covered landscapes of Big Timber to fishing the ever-changing waters of Fort Peck Lake, each experience is designed to be unforgettable. With our ever-growing team of dedicated volunteers, we continually strive to elevate every trip and ensure our Veterans feel welcomed with a true “Welcome to the family” spirit.
When we personally invite Veterans to apply, we often hear the same response:
“There are others who need and deserve it more.”
While that humility speaks volumes about the character of those who served, we respectfully disagree. At Montana Warriors on the Water, we believe every man and woman who proudly served in the U.S. military deserves recognition and appreciation. Unlike many organizations that focus solely on specific awards or injuries, our mission is to honor all who wore the uniform.
Having been involved with MWOTW from the very beginning — starting as a Volunteer and Boat Captain, then serving as a board member, and now holding the position of Executive Director/Chairman — I have personally witnessed the impact these trips have on our attendees. Time and again, we receive messages from friends and family expressing gratitude for the positive changes they see after a Veteran returns home. On many occasions, those messages have brought tears to the eyes of our board members and volunteers.
There are two key elements that define every MWOTW trip.
First is Camaraderie. The most common word we see on applications is “camaraderie” — or more specifically, the lack of it since leaving the military. Rebuilding that sense of brotherhood and sisterhood is something we intentionally foster. Whether forming new friendships or reconnecting with old ones, our goal is to create an environment where bonds are strengthened and lasting connections are made.
Second is the Montana outdoors. When it comes to hunting and fishing, it’s hard not to brag about our state. The Treasure State offers unmatched scenery and abundant wildlife, supported by a strong culture of conservation and local hunters and anglers who generously volunteer their time and resources. Through their dedication, our Veterans gain access to experiences and locations that most people only dream about.
We encourage you to follow our website and social media channels for updates on upcoming application periods. Give us the opportunity to show you what Montana Warriors on the Water is all about.
From all of us at MWOTW, we wish you the very best — and we hope to welcome you into the family soon.
Sincerely,
Billy Hoverson
Executive Director/Chairman
